Basketball as a Mission

Founded: October 2005

BIOGRAPHY

Basketball as a Mission was founded in 2005 by Colleen (Lewis) Aguilar after seeing the need to give children outside the US opportunities available from sports. Since then, we have held over 20 camps in five different countries and varied locations.  We have provided services to over 600 campers and have given over 50 coaches the opportunity to travel and to give their time to help others.

At each camp, all athletes are provided 5 days of instruction on teamwork, skills, and rules of the game as well as gear to be able to compete.  Basketball as a Mission has worked in places such as Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Argentina, Mexico and the US.  Campers come from impoverished communities and working together, we connect on many levels.

Our Mission:

Basketball as a Mission strives to enrich the lives of underprivileged children by igniting a passion for basketball and merging cultures through sport.

Our Vision:

We plan to hold camps in both Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic in the summer of 2018, hoping to work with over 100 athletes and at least 10 coaches.
